Real Mushrooms Lion’s Mane Review

Recently, I heard about lion’s mane mushroom supplements on the Muscle Intelligence podcast. Intrigued by its cognitive benefits, I decided to try Real Mushrooms lion’s mane powder for 30 days and share my experience in this review, covering its dosing and usage, noticeable effects, and comparison to similar products.

Overview of Real Mushrooms

While researching the Real Mushrooms company, I learned that not all mushroom extract supplements are what they claim to be. A 2019 Consumer Labs report indicated that many mushroom supplements contain very little of the active compounds known as beta-glucans.

Some supplement companies cut corners and use low-quality ingredients or improper extraction methods. In contrast, third-party testing revealed that Real Mushrooms products have among the highest amounts of medicinal compounds per serving.

Based on this information and the fact that the beta-glucan content is displayed on the label, I felt confident trying Real Mushrooms Lion’s Mane supplment.

Real Mushrooms Lion’s Mane Dosing & Usage

Real Mushrooms Lion’s Mane is available in capsules or in powder form. The suggested dose for lion’s mane is 1,000 mg, which is two capsules or 1/2 teaspoon of powder.

The capsules are odorless and flavorless, making them convenient and ideal for anyone that doesn’t what to mess with powders or mushroom flavors. On the other hand, the powder has a mild taste that pairs well with coffee or other flavored drinks.

I chose the Real Mushrooms Lion’s Mane powder due to its faster absorption rate. To use, I simply add 1/2 tsp with my black coffee and mix it with a milk frother to prevent settling out.

In my experience, combining lion’s mane mushroom extract with caffeine resulted in a slight but noticeable increase in mental focus. And the cognitive effects were not accompanied by any jitters or anxiety like one might experience with other supplements or energy drinks.

I also did some Google Scholar research to ensure these results weren’t just a placebo effect. And I found dozens of medical studies spanning the last two-plus decades.

Several studies involving lion’s mane or Hericium erinaceus have shown improvement in cognitive function in healthy and impaired people1,2. Other studies even suggest it could help reduce depression and anxiety3,4.
