You’ve probably noticed that many products marketed as protein coffee creamer are actually collagen products. However, collagen powder is not the same as protein powder in terms of its source or nutritional profile.

First, collagen is made from the connective tissue, skin, and bones of animals. In contrast, protein powders are most often made from milk by-products like whey and casein.

In addition, the amino acid profile differs between collagen and protein powders. Collagen is primarily made up of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. By comparison, whey protein is higher in essential amino acids like isoleucine, leucine, and valine.

Consequently, collagen powder is also a popular supplement for improving hair, skin, and nails. In contrast, milk protein products are better for building or maintaining lean muscle.

So if you’re using protein coffee creamer for cosmetic or general health reasons, collagen may be a good option for you. And Vital Proteins collagen powder is a popular choice among the fitness community.

Another popular product in the health space is protein coffee, which is essentially whey protein powder combined with coffee grounds or dried coffee powder. Then you mix it with cold water and drink it like iced coffee or heat it after mixing.

First, Fairlife specializes in liquid high-protein drinks you can buy in convenience stores or gas stations. And their coffee protein shake has healthy ingredients with a whopping 30 grams of protein!

Second, Alani Nu is best known for its workout supplements and energy drinks. But this brand has many other products, including a coffee protein shake. However, the Alani drink has more sugar, less protein, and less caffeine than Fairlife.

DIY Protein Coffee Creamer Recipes

Protein coffee products from well-known brands are delicious and convenient, but they come at a high cost, with an average of $2 per serving. Furthermore, these products provide limited options for controlling your drink’s caffeine, calorie, and protein content.

Therefore, I’ve developed a few protein coffee recipes for budget-conscious people who prefer more control over our beverages.

Protein Powder Coffee Creamer

An easy way to increase the protein content of your coffee is to add a scoop of your preferred protein powder. This option is cost-effective, as one scoop provides over twice the amount of protein as creamers.

You can also customize the taste of your coffee by adding vanilla or caramel-flavored protein powder. I prefer a flavorless protein powder to retain the coffee taste, and you can also use it in smoothies.

The only downside is that mixing protein powder in hot coffee can be challenging, but this can be resolved using an electric milk frother. I use a handheld mixer from PowerLix, and it works perfectly for blending protein powder with my hot coffee without chunks or lumps.

Keto Protein Coffee Creamer

If you have been searching for coffee creamers high in protein, you may have come across keto creamer products. These additives are generally considered healthier than sugary coffee creamer, but they may not contain protein.

To address this, I have developed a keto-friendly homemade coffee creamer recipe containing healthy fats and protein. The recipe includes MCTs, naturally occurring rapid-burning dietary fats found in coconut oil.

Alternatively, you can use whole eggs to increase your intake of fat, vitamins, and minerals in your homemade protein coffee creamer. To ensure safety, it’s best to use pasteurized eggs.
