Larry “Wheels” Williams is an American powerlifter, bodybuilder, and strongman known for his incredible feats of strength. Most impressive is that Larry out lifts men much heavier than himself.

So you might be wondering about Larry Wheels’ height and weight. And how much he lifts compared to other powerlifters and strongmen.

Larry Wheels Height and Weight

Larry Wheels is 6’1” (185 cm) tall and weighs 260-300 lbs (118-136 kg) depending on the sport in which he is competing. For example, Larry typically drops to about 270 lbs (123 kg) to compete in the 275 lb weight class for powerlifting. 

Although Larry has weighed as much as 296.6 lbs (135 kg) in powerlifting meets, putting him in the 308 lb weight class. This extra weight is also advantageous when he competes in strongman events.

In contrast, Larry cuts down to about 259-268 lbs (118-122 kg) for bodybuilding contests. He has much more definition at this size but still competes in the super heavyweight division.

Before we get into Larry Wheels’ strength records, let’s look at a brief history and how he got so strong in the first place.

As a child, Larry’s mother lost custody of him, and he lived with his grandmother in New York City. Eventually, he was placed in foster care when he was 11.

At 12, Larry left New York with his mother to live on the French Caribbean Island of Saint Martin. With no access to schooling and few friends, he began lifting weights when he was 14 out of boredom.

At first, he only had a broomstick and two cinder blocks with which he would do bicep curls and bench presses. But at age 15, Larry and his mother moved back to New York, where he joined a real gym.

By age 16, Wheels was stronger than the grown men at his gym. And it was then that he realized lifting weights would be his life.

Powerlifting & Bodybuilding Career

At 18, Larry Wheels entered his first powerlifting contest in November 2013. He took first place in the 275 lb weight class despite weighing 20 lbs less than most of the other competitors.

After that, he continued competing and getting stronger. Finally, in November 2017, at just 22 years old, Larry set a world record with a 2,275 lbs total in the 275 lbs weight class.

Within three months of his powerlifting record, in February 2018, Larry competed in his first bodybuilding contest and won the NPC Gold Coast Muscle Classic in California. Then he competed in the NPC nationals in November 2018, placing 11th.

In addition to powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions, Larry performs other feats of strength, including unconventional lifts and arm wrestling. Most recently, Larry has focused his efforts on strongman contests.

Larry Wheels Powerlifting Total World Records

To date, Larry Wheels holds two world records for powerlifting competition totals in his respective weight classes. These lifts include the squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Wheels gained notoriety in 2017 when he set a world record of 2,275 lbs (1,034 kg) in the 275 lb weight class without wraps. His individual lifts in that meet were an 810 lb (368 kg) squat, 610 lb (277 kg) bench, and 855 lb (389 kg) deadlift.

In 2020, Wheels set another world record of 2,370 lbs (1,077 kg) in the 308 lb weight class. This total included an 870 lb (382 kg) squat, 645 lb (293 kg) bench, and 855 lb (389 lb) deadlift.

Since last competing in 2020, Larry has gotten significantly stronger, especially in the deadlift. And he has set new PRs in all three lifts.

In June 2022, Larry Wheels bench pressed 675 lbs (307 kg) at about 275 lbs body weight. The caption indicates this was the biggest bench of his life.

Larry Wheels Max Deadlift

In another June 2022 video, Larry Wheels is seen deadlifting 930 lbs (423 kg) for three reps. While he is using straps and hitches on the way up, this is considerably heavier than his competition best of 882 lbs (401 kg).

In addition, Wheels announced he will attempt a 1,000 lb deadlift at the Middle East’s Strongest Man competition in August 2022. If successful, he will set another world record and be the lightest man to deadlift 1,000 lbs.

Is Larry Wheels Natural?

Larry Wheels has been open about the fact that he was introduced to steroids at 16 by an older guy at his gym. And he has been using performance-enhancing drugs ever since to increase his strength for powerlifting contests.

However, Larry doesn’t advocate using steroids and urges people to educate themselves about the risks. In the video below, he talks about his personal experience with steroids and other drugs.

How is Larry Wheels so strong?

Obviously, steroids play a role in Larry Wheels’ tremendous strength. But most other elite powerlifters and bodybuilders take steroids, too. So why is Larry Wheels so strong?

There is no single answer to that question. Instead, it is a combination of a few factors, including genetics, mechanics, and mindset.

First, Larry Wheels has excellent genetics and responds better than most to resistance training. This genetic potential is evident by the fact that he was stronger than most grown men when he was 16, even without steroids.

In addition, Larry has relatively long arms for his height. That limb length gives him an advantage on deadlifts where he doesn’t have to bend as far forward. And it may also increase his leverage in arm wrestling. However, it doesn’t help on bench or squats.

Another reason Wheels’ is so strong is his focus and drive. From a young age, Larry dedicated his life to getting as strong as possible and has been training consistently for 13 years. Very few people give anything that level of dedication.

Larry Wheels Diet

In addition to his dedication in the gym, Larry Wheels follows a consistent diet plan to help him maintain his incredible strength. His specific calories, macros, and food choices depend on his training goals.

For example, Larry reportedly eats up to 8,000 calories daily while training for strongman competitions. To do this, he doesn’t stick to a perfectly clean diet. Instead, he opts to use some calorie-dense fast foods like pizza, ice cream, and fries.

Here is an example of Larry Wheels’ diet plan for gaining weight and building strength.

As you can see, Larry Wheels’ meal plan looks more like a grocery list for a whole week! But this is the amount of energy it takes to fuel Larry’s huge body mass and super intense training regimen.

Larry’s calorie intake would be roughly 7,500 calories based on the foods and quantities above. And those calories come from about 900g of carbs, 250g of fat, and 430g of protein.

Those numbers are almost hard to comprehend. And they are pretty extreme even for someone as big, active, and enhanced as Larry. By my calculations, that intake would put him at least 2,300 calories above his expenditure, or a 40% calorie surplus.

Furthermore, that energy excess would result in unessesary fat gain if followed consistently. So I assume this is an example of a high-calorie cheat day, not his daily diet plan.

In addition, you shouldn’t follow this plan unless you’re a 300 lb strongman lifting a literal ton! The right diet for you depends on your body size, activity level, workouts, and fitness goals.
